Situational Awareness and Personal Safety / Decision Making (S.A.P.S.) Presentation

From Highschool students with thoughts of graduation, to College aged adults busied with all  they have to do, to middle aged adults trying to navigate this dangerous world…  Understanding Situational Awareness and increasing your Personal Safety with sound Decision Making are extremely valuable skills. Not only will they help keep you safe, but they will bolster self-confidence.

Violent Crime Rates Continue to Increase.

There is no doubt that we currently live in a dangerous world, including us here in the Midwest. Crime is on the rise. Identity theft & physical theft can both cause thousands of lost dollars to the victims. The Federal Trade Commission has reported that 9 million persons will be the victim of Identity Theft this year alone. Are you being safe with personal information?

Violent crime is also higher than in recent years across the country. Unprovoked physical assaults are on the rise. Carjackings are on the rise nationally.  Sexual Assaults are ever present. Are you being cautious of your surroundings?  If a situation presented itself, would you know what to do? This presentation will provide safety tips on how to avoid being caught up in those situations.

The use of “Date Rape” drugs is on the rise. “Roofies” such as Rohypnol, GHB & Ketamine are increasingly being used on both women and men here in the Midwest. Do you know the signs and prevention methods?   And “Roofies” are not just used for sexual assaults, they are being used for other nefarious reasons and also simply as a “joke” in some public settings.

Hospitalizations from Marijuana overdoses are happening every day across the country as well. The days of Marijuana being “no big deal” are over. The super high concentrations of THC in the marijuana available these days is dangerous. When THC is extracted from Marijuana it can be concentrated to levels of 90% or even higher. As way of comparison, in the 1980s leaf marijuana (flower / bud) was 5-7% THC. From 7% to 90+% is simply reckless and very dangerous. These extremely high levels are causing psychotic episodes in some people. Search for articles on the subject and you will see.

Fentanyl Tablets

And lastly, accidental overdose deaths from Fentanyl have increased exponentially, across the country, even in our small local communities. According to the CDC, in 2021 alone there were over 71,000 overdose deaths from Fentanyl in America. That is 194 deaths per day! Several deaths per day are from people who had no intention of using Fentanyl at all. 71,000 per year!

There are precautions that you or your young adult can take to shield them from some of the pitfalls of life. Some of these pitfalls can leave lasting problems and or even lead to death. Information and tips on how to avoid some of these have been put into this 90 min presentation/ Q&A session by Paul Milone.

Meet Paul Milone

Paul Milone, Retired Police Detective

Paul is a retired police officer who spent nineteen years of his career as an investigator, with fourteen years on the Narcotics unit for his department. During that time, Paul worked undercover and spent countless hours dealing firsthand with criminals who seek to hurt and/or exploit all walks of life. These investigations ranged from buying drugs, guns & stolen property from hundreds of different individuals, to Dark Web cases with the FBI, Fraud Cases with the United States Inspector General’s Office, Firearms cases with the ATF, and Identity Theft with the State Department.

Part of Paul’s experience included performing up close undercover surveillance operations for Federal, State, County and local law enforcement agencies. Paul has interviewed numerous criminals who confided in him their methods/techniques on how they victimize and chose their targets.

Additionally, Paul spent sixteen years on his department’s SWAT team, arresting perpetrators who victimized others. He saw the destruction of lives first hand and up close. Paul’s work experience required him to live by his “Situational Awareness & Personal Safety”.

Paul has also been giving presentations to local High School students for the past fifteen years on a variety of topics. Originally Paul designed this 90 minute presentation to focus on young adults living on their own. However due to recent demand, the presentation has been “modified” and adapted for audiences other than just young adults.   The presentation can be molded into whatever category of audience needed.  Situational Awareness applies to all.   Paul’s easy-going manner and real-life examples are appreciated and well received by his audiences.

Paul has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s Degree in Human Services.
